3D printed insert for the board game Root and four major expansions.
This insert is designed for players who want to keep the main Root content neatly stored in the base-game box. Each faction has its own open tray, with components loaded from the top. The most practical arrangement is to place cards in first, followed by tokens, meeples, and other faction components.
- Open faction trays without lids for quick loading and removal of components.
- Each tray matches the faction color and features its meeple symbol.
- Faction trays also show a sword for militant factions, the faction Reach value, and a setup-order letter.
- Identification is handled through color, symbols, and game-specific markings.
- Suitable for sleeved cards.
- The insert also accommodates Advanced Setup cards, Vagabond roles, and Knaves captain cards.
The insert is designed for the Root base game and all major expansions released so far, excluding Clockwork expansions.

In addition to the major expansions, the insert also has space for smaller expansions and accessories commonly used with Root.

- Root: Landmarks Pack (2022) - cards and pieces can be stored in the base insert, although we primarily recommend storing them in the Hirelings insert.
- Root: Frog Clearing Markers (2026) - the Czech edition has not yet been released and this content may not appear in the photos, but the insert is prepared for these markers as well.
- Space for the base card deck, The Exiles and Partisans Deck, and the Squires & Disciples Deck.
The trays are open storage boxes loaded from the top. This makes handling faster and more practical for regular play.
- Place the cards in first, then add tokens, meeples, and other components.
- The tray color matches the faction.
- The meeple symbol makes it easy to identify the faction at a glance.
- A sword symbol marks militant factions.
- The number on the tray shows the faction’s Reach value.
- The letter helps with setup order.
The insert is also prepared for the new factions from The Homeland Expansion.

The Vagabond and Knaves share part of the storage because these elements are not used simultaneously, and some figures/characters belong to a shared selection pool.
You can place the game maps, player boards, and rulebooks directly on top of the insert in the base-game box. In that case, expect some lid lift depending on the number of boards and rulebooks stored there.
We recommend storing maps, player boards, and rulebooks in one expansion box. With the third map and three new boards from Homeland, the expansion-box lid may also lift noticeably, but the overall storage remains clearer and more practical.
Landmarks are primarily stored in the separate Hirelings insert. If you do not own the Hirelings, selected landmarks such as the Tower and Ferry can also be stored in the base-game box with this insert.
Clearing markers also fit in the insert. If you already own the official clearing markers, the insert accommodates them. You can also purchase our Root clearing markers.

- Because the trays are open, we recommend horizontal storage.
- The print may have minor visual variations.
- We print mainly from PLA a PETG using Prusa and Bambu Lab printers.
The insert is inspired by a design by Sigismond0, which is freely available on Printables, including for commercial use. The final insert was created as MitroCZECH’s own practical adaptation; the original design mainly served as inspiration, and any individual parts used were further modified to make the insert more practical and lighter.
