For a game like Istanbul, an overlay board is especially useful: it keeps the components in place, so a bump to the table will not scatter all the cubes. We also added a cover/slider used to unlock individual columns as you upgrade your wheelbarrow at the Wainwright (1).

To speed up setup and reduce mistakes, all relevant holders are marked with a number matching the corresponding Location.

Standard color combination:

• Gray: components used on the game board.
• Black: resources and player components.
• Olive: player wheelbarrow overlays.

We can also print everything in one color, or print the player trays in the player colors. If you have a special request, please add it to the order note.

We offer an optional support structure under the original cardboard insert for owners who discarded the punched cardboard frames. We do not want to print extra plastic unless you need it. The support raises the contents of the box up to the lid and therefore enables vertical storage. The empty space can be filled with any material 23–27 mm thick; about 25 mm is ideal. In our own box we used paper packaging material from an IKEA cabinet, as shown in the video.

Details and placement

If you also have the six-part reinforcement for vertical storage, assemble it and place it under the original insert.

For easier orientation, divide the original insert into four sectors: (A), (B), (C) and (D). In sectors C and D, fold the lower parts of the cardboard insert downward as shown in the original instructions. This gives enough room in C for the Location cards and in D for the player Wheelbarrows and Overview cards. In sector C, also place the two Demand Tile holders for the Small Market [10] and Large Market [11] upright.

Most parts are marked with the corresponding Location number to make setup faster and easier.

Sector A – black parts

• A1: 5× player tray + 1× ruby tray.
• A2: 2× tray for money (lira) and coffee.

Sector B – gray parts

• Tray for dice, Governor, Smuggler, Coffee Trader, Courier, Baksheesh tile, Post Office indicators, First Player tile and Barrier tile. The wooden Barrier is stored under the tray.
• Bonus Card holder [6] + lid and Guild Card holder [18] + lid.
• Kiosk tile holder [22] and Small/Great Mosque tile holder [14/15].
• Tavern tile holder [19] and Letter holder [21]; place the Caravan tile between this holder and the cards.
• Organizer/base with numbers showing the correct positions of the gray insert parts.

Sector C – gray parts

All Location cards, plus the Demand Tile holders for the Small Market [10] and Large Market [11].

Sector D

Overview cards and player Wheelbarrows with overlays and sliders. The sliders are moved step by step as you improve the Wheelbarrows at [1] Wainwright. Do not punch the wheelbarrow upgrades out of the Wheelbarrow board.
